Recently, Sr Gill Goulding CJ met Pope Francis at a meeting in Assisi. Sr Gill is a member of the English Province who teaches theology at Regis College, in Toronto. The Canadian papal nuncio knew of her recent work on mercy, and invited Sr Gill to a Mass at Casa Santa Martha.
Sr Gill said: ‘After the mass all the invited people (three couples celebrating anniversaries, a priest celebrating a jubilee and me) met with him for a few minutes. I had made a translation into Italian of a summary of my project and attached the detail in English. It was so wonderful to meet him and he thanked me for being a woman theologian and for my work at Regis College. He said he particularly thanked me for doing my research in the area of mercy. He asked me not to forget to pray for him and I told him I pray for him everyday. Then he said he wanted to bless me and my work. After that I made my way through the Holy Door of St Peter’s and to the Blessed Sacrament chapel to pray overflowing with gratitude.’
