On Monday, 26 August the York annual pilgrimage in honour of St. Margaret Clitherow took place. The pilgrimage started from the Bar Convent crossing Ouse Bridge and passing the Guildhall and the Shambles before ending with Mass at St Wilfrid’s Church in the centre of the city.
The present Mayor of York, Margaret Wells, and the Sheriff, Fiona Fitzpatrick, who is a Catholic, asked to attend the pilgrimage. They also asked for a short tour of the Bar Convent chapel before the prayers began. They visited the Heritage Centre and were very impressed by the exhibition, showing great interest in Mary Ward.
Attached is a photo of Sr Ann presenting the Mayor with Sydney Thorne’s book The Life of Mary Ward.
Around 200 people took part in the pilgrimage and the chapel was very full. The people of York were amazed by the group making their way through the city reciting the Rosary.
